Casino math 101

Learn the language of the odds.

Six concepts explain most of what matters. Start here, then use the calculators to see them interact.

Lesson 01

House edge

The casino's average share of all money wagered—not a prediction of your session.

Lesson 02

RTP

Return to player is the other side of house edge. A 96% RTP corresponds to a 4% house edge in the stated model.

Lesson 03

Total action

Bet size × decisions. Recycled chips still count, which is why time and pace matter.

Lesson 04

Variance

How widely short-term results scatter around the average. High variance can mean long quiet stretches and sharp swings.

Lesson 05

Bankroll

Money deliberately set aside for play. A limit controls exposure; it does not change the odds.

Lesson 06

Comps

Rewards typically funded by expected loss. Value them realistically and never generate extra play to earn them.

The durable rule: lower edge, smaller wagers, and fewer decisions reduce theoretical cost. No staking system turns a negative-expectation game positive.
